Some info about us, and tips on how to get around the website.

Who are we?

We are the Chesapeake Marine Aquaria Society (CMAS), a community of people mostly in the eastern Maryland / southern Delaware / northern Virginia area who are dedicated saltwater aquarium hobbyists.  CMAS has been bringing together local "reefers" for over a decade now, so there's a wealth of both knowledge and friendships here.  Whether you're new to the hobby or a grizzled saltwater veteran (we have plenty of both), there should be something here in the club for you.  Let us know who you are!

What's here?

This site is primarily a community forum, which you can access through the Forums link at the top of the screen.  Once you dive in, you'll find discussions both informal and technical, a lot of equipment and livestock buying, selling, and trading, and information about club events.  The Forums appear in categories, and inside each category are a lot of topical threads, most with a lot of discussion posts.  You can browse around to see what interests you, or use the Search tab on the menu to find topics by keyword, date, etc.

How do I use the site?

If you haven't used a community forum before, that's not a big deal.  You can browse around anonymously (as a Guest user) as much as you like.  If you want to post a reply to a topic or start a new one of your own, though, you'll need to create a login first so that people can respond to you.  You should see a "Create Account" link in the blue circle at the top right of the screen, or you can go straight to the User Registration page.  You'll have to create a username by which you'll be known here, and also provide an email address for password confirmation and system messages.

Once you've completed that process, you'll be able to participate in most of the discussions here.  The only thing you won't see is the Members-Only area, which is where the buying and selling of equipment and livestock happens as well as organized group buys and official club business and event threads.

Of course, that stuff is one of the main reasons people come here so we hope you'll consider becoming a full member via the Join link at the top of the screen.  Then you'll have full access to all the site content and can be part of all that other activity.  Joining requires you to give us a little more info as well as payment of annual dues via PayPal.

Hopefully this will be enough info to get you started here.  If you still have questions, please free to contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we'll try to help you out.  Happy reefing!
